Liposonix Treatments

a fat reduction treatment

Dr. Zimmerman, a board certified physician, has been performing Liposonix fat reduction treatments for more than 5 years in Cincinnati. Struggling to be rid of that last little bit of stubborn fat, ask Dr. Zimmerman if it’s right for you. Liposonix treatments, a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure, has been featured on The Today Show, The View, 20/20, and The Doctors as well as in articles in The Business Times, Elle, Vogue, and Allure.

What is Liposonix?

Liposonix® is revolutionary, non-surgical treatment that uses a high-intensity ultrasound to treat and eliminate those remaining fat cells. A Liposonix® cosmetic procedure uses a transducer to generate acoustic waves that travel through tissue. It penetrates through the skin layers into the targeted fat tissue without harming skin or surrounding tissue, allowing the waves to quickly heat and destroy fat. This enables delivery of uniform, predictable results after just a single one-hour treatment. Your body’s natural healing response removes the destroyed fat over the course of one month.

Liposonix® is a highly versatile treatment that controls precisely how and where the energy is delivered. Typical treatment areas are the targeted fat around your waistline and love handles. On average, Liposonix® patients see about a 1 inch reduction after a single one-hour treatment—equivalent to roughly one pant or dress size. Results can be expected in an 8-12 week period of time, giving your body the opportunity to naturally process the treated fat. Liposonix® is meant to treat patients close to their ideal body weight and is a great versatile contouring mechanism for unwanted wanted fat.

How does Liposonix work?

The disrupted fat cells attract the body’s inflammatory and healing responses. Special cells called macrophages engulf the fat and cellular debris. The macrophages then transport the fat through the lymphatic and venous system, eventually to the liver. This process takes 2-4 weeks, so there are no changes in fat, triglyceride, or any other body chemistry. The liver treats the fat from the macrophages just like fat you have eaten. The liver takes the fat and metabolizes it normally. Studies have not shown an increase in other body measurements after the use of Liposonix. This means there is no measurable redistribution of fat. We know it can’t go back to the treatment area because those cells no longer exist.

Will Liposonix treatments help me lose weight?

Liposonix® is NOT a weight loss procedure. Since it is only the fat cells being disrupted in Liposonix® you may not notice a significant loss in weight, but rather a loss in circumference inch(es). It is important to remember: Liposonix permanently disrupts fat cells but does not destroy or eliminate fat.

Who are the best candidates for Liposonix treatments?

Men and women can experience the benefits of the Liposonix® technology. The tag line if you can pinch-an-inch has remained a basic staple in determining if you may be a good candidate for this fat-reduction procedure. Ideal candidates have good overall health and have a BMI of equal to or less than 30. While this is not a replacement for surgical procedures, it is a great option for those looking to rid themselves of stubborn areas of fat not responding to diet and exercise. Previous consultations with Dr. Zimmerman are required so she can take a look at your stubborn areas, and determine if Liposonix® is the best course of action.

What is the difference between Liposonix and CoolSculpting?

Both Liposonix and CoolSculpt permanently destroy the fat cells, resulting in a reduction in size of the area treated. Both are procedures performed in the office, as an outpatient and take about an hour - please note, Dr. Zimmerman ONLY performs Liposonix.  Both Liposonix and CoolSculpt result in some soreness swelling and bruising in the treatment area.  Both take at least 3 months to see results and improvement can continue out to 6 months after the procedure.  That is where the similarities end.

  • Liposonix has no problems with fat hypertophy (extra fat returning to treatment area) – CoolSculpt can develop fat hypertrophy

  • Liposonx has little or no pain afterwards. CoolSculpt can have severe pain develop in the treatment zone up to 10% of the time.  This can last for 6 months or more and be difficult to treat.

  • Liposonix can also tighten the skin. CoolSculpt does not tighten the skin.

Decoding the problem areas?

Treatable areas include:

  • Flanks

  • Abdomen area

  • Buttocks

  • Inner Knees

Liposonix® pricing varies based on the size of the areas being treated. Since the Liposonix® platform allows you to customize the specific areas to be treated, Dr. Zimmerman will work with you to determine your specific treatment plan and pricing.

What to expect?

After determining if Liposonix® is the best treatment for your goals during a complimentary consultation, the process itself is quite simple. Dr. Zimmerman will take key measurements for a stable baseline and then marks a template of the treatment area. Dr. Zimmerman determines the number of pulses needed for optimal results.

During the treatment, patients can expect a slight discomfort, hot, prickling, tingling or warm sensation as described. Treatment can take anywhere from thirty minutes to one hour depending on treatment area and size. After treatment, there may be some discomfort (pain), bruising, redness, and swelling, generally described as mild. One of the most appealing aspects of Liposonix® is that you can go back to your normal activities without any restrictions. Over the following eight to twelve weeks, your body will naturally process and remove the destroyed fat tissue leaving you with a smoother, slimmer and more contoured look.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure takes up to an hour, depending on the size of the area

When will I see results?

Most people see maximum results in 8 to 12 weeks. This is how long it takes for the body to naturally metabolize the destroyed fat tissue. The targeted cells are permanently destroyed, but surrounding fat cells can grow – the best way to maintain results is to maintain a healthy lifestyle. .

How many sessions will I need?

Fat is permanently destroyed in a single treatment. Patients have undergone a second treatment 3 months after the original treatment to achieve further fat reduction or treat a new area.

What is the downtime and are there any side effects?

Downtime is minimal. You may have some bruising, and treated areas will be swollen and sore to the touch a day or two following the procedure, but these side effects typically disappear in less than two weeks. You’ll be able to resume your normal exercise routine a immediately. Patients will leave the office in a compression garment which must be worn continuously for 1 week post treatment.
